Korean Traditional Illuminated Sutra Exhibition

The Flushing Town Hall is hosting an extraordinary exhibit. The 1700-year old tradition of sutra transcription and illumination by hand, known in Korea as Sagyeong. They are elegant calligraphy and painting in gold and silver. The art was beautiful and the artists even more stunning.
This exhibit was brought to my attention by my friend and artist Mee Jeong Kim. She is in the first picture with one of the visiting Korean artists.
Our community is an extraordinary conglamorate of so much ethnic diversity. I marvel at the experiences I have the opportunity to partake in. On Oct. 21st at 1PM there will be the 4th Annual Unity Walk sponsored by the Interfaith Council of Flushing (<Runitalsutton@gmail.com>. Six houses of worship will be open to the public ending at the Free Synagogue of Flushing. I have done this walk in the past and it is so exiting to be welcomed by the different ethnic communities in Flushing and to visit their sanctuaries.
