Achieving Health In Spite of the Obstacles of Daily Living

In the NYT today an article about lawyers Setting Their Sights on the Food Industry points out how “food producers are misleading consumers and violating federal regulations by wrongly labeling products and ingredients.”
Anyone who has been reading labels knows how daunting they are and clearly designed to mislead. Producers don’t want consumes to know what is or isn’t in their product.
The best way to protect oneself against harmful ingredients is not to consume them. Eat only unprocessed food. And that is a huge challenge. Some choices:
Fruits and vegetables: Are they genetically modified, what is the quality of the soil in which they are grown, a sprays and pesticides used in the growing process?
Dairy products: What was added or removed? How were the animals treated and fed?
Meats: Same questions as above.

This is all very complicated so we add vitamins and supplements to perhaps remove some risks. But they too have additives and we need lots of information to determine what we need and do not need. So what can we do?

1. Grow your own food or use a reliable farmer.

2. Be as healthy as you can to allow your body to handle potential hidden toxins.

3. Eat less in general. Become lean.

4. Exercise. It helps to eliminate toxins and keeps your body healthier.

5. Get plenty of sunshine

6. And finally, engage in meditative practices such as yoga, meditation, tai chi, etc. so that you are mentally and emotionally well and do not dwell on the many insults we are all subjected to repeatedly.
