Ring of Fire Eclipse

I had the privilege to participate in a spectacular event during my visit to California this weekend. There was an eclipse of the sun by the moon. We prepared a telescope together with a piece of oak tag to view the event without harming the eyes. We also had a pair of viewing glasses courtesy of Rick Gaitskell, Brown physics professor which we shared with anyone who wanted to look directly at the sun. We went to the grounds of observatory of Foothills College along with thousands local residents. The excitement and awe was palpable. Awesome was the much uttered word when individuals looked through the the glasses and saw the moon overlaying the sun. And everyone had a broad grin on his/her face.
