Finished the Book

WOW! Couldn’t put down The Hare with Amber Eyes.  This link includes an interview with Edmund De Waal and shows some of the netsukes. It tells the story of The Ephrussi family dating back to 1793 through the present. The author researches the history and travels of this Jewish family that De Waal traces back to the Ukraine to Vienna, Paris, Czechoslovakia, London, Tokyo and other regions where this large family of financiers found itself.  The book takes us through WW I and II and the plight of the Jews in Europe.  Much of the action takes place around tracing the origins and location of a collection of netsukes; tiny carefully carved objects made by Japanese craftsmen. One of which is the Hare with the Amber Eyes.
