Meditation Helps Lower Violence in Alabama Prison

I go to a meditation group at the Free Synagogue of Flushing every week.  It is led by Rabbi Michael Weisser and has helped me immensely to cope with my recently changed life situation.

Now we read that violent prison inmates, lifers, are greatly helped by taking a course in meditation.  Inmates in an Alabama prison who completed a rigorous course of meditation training had 20 % fewer disciplinary actions afterwards. I heard some of these prisoners interviewed on NPR  today and they report remarkable changes in their handling of emotions within themselves and interactions with other prisoners. Personal reaction to this learned practice are quite touching. Many  report becoming more compassionate and some work with hospice patients to aide and comfort them.
